What Erik ten Hag told Manchester United players in dressing room after Copenhagen loss

Man United would be eliminated from the Champions League if they lose to Galatasaray, as they have now lost three of their four group matches.

Despite Manchester United suffering their ninth loss of the year, Erik ten Hag remains certain that things will finally work in their favor.

After Copenhagen overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to win 4-3 in a thrilling Champions League group stage match, United had lost more games than won.

The loss leaves United bottom of Group A with two games to play and if they lose to Galatasaray in Istanbul in three weeks they will be out of the Champions League.

United were excellent until Marcus Rashford was sent off in the 42nd minute in the Parken Stadium and they regained the lead with 10 men through Bruno Fernandes in the second half. Copenhagen equalised in the 83rd minute and 17-year-old Roony Bardghji slammed in the winner four minutes later.

Ten Hag was particularly disappointed as United had given an admirable account for much of the contest, only to leave without any points.

The United manager maintained there is still belief the team can progress to the last 16. “This squad is resilient and the whole season so many decisions are against us, so many setbacks for injuries.

“Every time there is a spirit, there is a fight and I said to the lads it will turn, one moment in the season it will turn in our favour.

“Football is a game of mistakes, I don’t say we did everything right but I take a lot of positives, even with 10 men we are dictating the game. We played very good. We are very disappointed in the end we take nothing from this because it should have been different.

“Again, the attitude was great from the lads. They fought as a team, together, all on one page, fought for every yard on the pitch, shoulder for shoulder. So I can’t make any criticism on the team for that.”

When it a Danish journalist suggested it was an “unfair result”, Ten Hag replied: “Yeah, come on. The first 25 minutes, we dictated, dominated the game, 2-0 up and then the red card changes everything and we are down to 10. We are very disappointed.”
