Thomas Tuchel names first England squad as Reece James receives a surprise call up

Dan Burn and Lewis Skelly handed first national team call ups by new Three Lions Head coach Thomas Tuchel

Dan Burn and Myles Lewis-Skelly are both in line for their England debuts after being called up to the squad for the first time by head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Thirty-two-year-old Burn has never featured at any level for England, though has made 27 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United this season.

Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, only made his senior debut for Arsenal in September and, despite being just 18, has become a significant player for his club over the course of the campaign.

He has mainly been used as a left-back, but can also step into midfield and has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah will also be hoping for their first senior caps, despite having been called up previously.

Elsewhere, both Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford have been recalled to the national side.

Henderson, 34, moved to Ajax from Saudi side Al-Ettifaq in 2023-24 in order to boost his chances of playing for England, but his international career had appeared over when he was omitted from the Euro 2024 squad.

He has not been capped since playing against Malta at Wembley in November 2023.

Rashford, meanwhile, was another high-profile omission from England’s European Championship squad in Germany after a drop in form at Manchester United.

While he is yet to score during his loan spell at Aston Villa, the 27-year-old – who has won 60 England caps previously – has provided four assists.

Goalkeepers : Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton), James Trafford (Burnley)

Defenders : Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool), Kyle Walker (AC Milan, loan from Manchester City)

Midfielders : Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Jordan Henderson (Ajax), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Forwards : Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa, loan from Manchester United), Dominic Solanke (Tottenham Hotspur)
