We have an obligation to respect the matter before CAS – Dr. Patrice Motsepe
Following the controversies surrounding Senegal being stripped off the 2025 AFCON trophy, CAF president Patrice Motsepe has travelled to Dakar, Senegal to explain CAF’s decision to the Senegal football federation and the president.
Senegal was stripped off their 2025 AFCON title after Morocco’s appeal to the CAF disciplinary committee was successful.
There were growing tensions between the host nation Morocco and Senegal as the Senegalese deemed it unfair for CAF to stripped them off the title months after winning the tournament.
Answering questions on Senegal being stripped of the AFCON title, Dr. Patrice Motsepe had these to say;
“We have an obligation to respect the matter before CAS. For now, our focus must shift to the upcoming World Cup.”
“I gave Sadio Mane $10M, the medal and the trophy but I have to follow the laws.”
“We advocate for zero tolerance toward corruption, so that the 54 African nations can thrive in a healthy and fair environment.”
Dr. Motsepe further reassured members of the CAF of his determination to restore credibility to African football.
“I want to say that we are determined to restore all credibility to African football, in respect for the African peoples who trust us. Within CAF, we will ensure that all countries are treated with equity, dignity, and respect”
