Their most well-known matchup was in the Champions League final in May 1999; with Mario Basler giving the Bundesliga team the lead in the sixth minute of the match at Camp Nou, Bayern were guaranteed a title.
Teddy Sheringham did, however, tie the score in the 91st minute, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored the winning goal for Man United in the 93rd, giving the Red Devils a historic treble. This will go down in history as one of the most dramatic endings to a football game.
After that, the 20-time English champions have only triumphed over Bayern once, which came in a 3-2 victory in the second leg of their quarterfinal match in April 2010. Despite that victory, the German team advanced on away goals following an eventual 4-4 draw on aggregate.
