Manchester United is currently in the transfer market for a new striker. Rasmus Hojlund is now the only No. 9 after Marcus Rashford left for FC Barcelona; Joshua Zirkzee, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha can fill in, but neither is seen as the main man for that role.
Additionally, manager Ruben Amorim allegedly wants another attacker who can start right away because the season is long.
Randal Kolo Muani can help with that. According to rumors from Italy (via Corriere dello Sport), PSG is prepared to let go of the French striker, who is reportedly on United’s radar.
Kolo Muani paid a hefty price to join the French powerhouses in 2023, but he hasn’t settled in Paris. According to reports, PSG is now amenable to a loan with a purchase commitment for next summer.
The total deal could be worth around £44 million, but Manchester United would only need to pay £8.7 million upfront. In a summer where cash has been tight at Old Trafford, that’s a tempting offer.
Can Kolo Muani fill the gap at Manchester United?
Juventus are also reportedly interested, but their financial issues may give United the edge. If Amorim wants a strong backup or even a starter to share the load with Højlund, Kolo Muani could be the right fit for Manchester United.
Kolo Muani is 26 years old and still has a lot to contribute. Despite his difficulties at PSG, his statistics speak for themselves. According to Transfermarkt, he contributed 0.76 goals per 90 minutes on average, even during a difficult season.
That surpasses what United’s primary attackers accomplished the previous season. For comparison, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes contributed less per 90. Even the team’s current No. 9 player, Hojlund, only managed 0.22.
In Germany, Kolo Muani has also demonstrated his abilities. He averaged almost a goal or assist per game at Eintracht Frankfurt.
PSG spent over €95 million on him as a result of his performance. At less than half the cost, United may now be able to get a striker with the same potential.
