Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah finally signs Sudan contract

Kwesi Appiah, a former coach of Ghana, has inked a three-year deal with the national team of Sudan.

Due to the political unrest in Sudan, the Sudanese Football Association has temporarily relocated to Saudi Arabia, where Kwesi Appiah signed the contract.

Along with him is the 64-year-old coach’s assistant, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, a fellow Ghanaian, and Sudan’s goalkeeper coach, Fatau Dauda, a former goalkeeper for Ghana.

Appiah’s tenure started off with a 1-0 victory over Chad and a 1-1 draw against Tanzania, ending the Sudanese team’s run of unsatisfactory performances. His main goal is to assist Sudan in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. They will play DR Congo and Togo in the qualifications the following month.

Sudan did not qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will commence in January 2024, so they are fully dedicated to their World Cup qualification campaign.

Appiah is juggling his responsibilities by working with Sudan while also serving as a Ghana Football Association Executive Council member and technical director for Asante Kotoko.
