The dream of every football academy kid is to play at a higher professional level, and that is why many are motivated to work harder to make their dreams come true. Emmanuel Michael, an 18-year-old Nigerian left-back, has begun his promising career with one of Austria’s popular clubs, LASK.
The story behind Emmanuel’s football journey is similar to that of many Africans who have risen to success in football. He started on the streets—with no boots, no proper training kits—but his skill and hard work caught the attention of scouts from Simoiben Football Academy, an active talent hub in Nigeria backed by national team winger Moses Simon.

Emmanuel Michael – WAFU B U-17 & International Recognition
Emmanuel earned a deserving call-up to represent Nigeria in the 2022 WAFU B U17 championship, where he made his mark by scoring multiple free-kick goals and also won three man-of-the-match awards.
His skill, which is more typical of seasoned playmakers than young defenders, astounded onlookers by his ability to bend balls over walls with cool assurance. He stood out as polished and unafraid in a tournament full of undeveloped ability.
European scouts were soon drawn to his performances, and he was reportedly linked to teams in Denmark (Midtjylland), France (Monaco), Spain (Huesca), and the Netherlands (Ajax). However, the audacious move was made by LASK, a prestigious Austrian team renowned for developing potential.
The European Leap: LASK and Austrian Ambitions
A move to LASK Amateure OÖ was made possible in August 2024. Emmanuel Michael became part of the reserve team of LASK, where a new beginning became a reality for him as he experienced a new continent, climate, and culture, but all these factors didn’t hold him back as he was able to work harder and earn a spot in training with their first team.

Emmanuel made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga in January 2025, five months after arriving in Europe, when he was promoted to LASK’s senior squad. The 18-year-old lad who used to curve free kicks barefoot was suddenly playing in one of Europe’s top divisions under floodlights.
