Berekum Chelsea attacker Dominic Frimpong shot dead in a highway robbery

Dominic Frimpong of Berekum Chelsea has been confirmed dead after he was shot in the head following an armed robbery incident last night.

Berekum Chelsea were returning to Berekum from the home of former champions FC Samatex in a Ghana Premier League match on day 29.

It is reported that the team bus was attacked by armed robbers on the Bibiani-Goaso road where the robbers blocked the road, forcing players and officials to evacuate the bus and flee for their lives.

The 20-year-old attacker Dominic Frimpong who was reported to have been shot in the head was rushed to the Bibiani Government hospital but was pronounced dead some minutes after.

The Ghana Police have announced a manhunt for the robbers following the death of the 20-year-old.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with a deal set to run until the end of the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League season.

Frimpong has scored two goals in 13 appearances this season.
