Carragher calls Salah a “disgrace” as he hits back at him

Mo Salah’s weekend outburst triggers a response from Jamie Carragher as he labels the Egyptian’s actions as a disgrace

Jamie Carragher labelled Mohamed Salah’s explosive outburst at the weekend as a “disgrace” in a scathing rant about the Liverpool star on Monday.

Salah caused a stir following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday, a game which saw him placed on the substitutes bench for the third match in a row.

Following their Elland Road stalemate, Salah delivered a sensational post-match interview where he suggested he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club.

The Egyptian added that his relationship with Liverpool boss Arne Slot had soured, with Salah subsequently left out of the Reds’ Champions League squad to face Inter.

Salah also took aim at Carragher, saying that the Liverpool defender was “going to criticise me, but that’s fine”, and the Sky Sports pundit did not hold back in his response.

“I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst. I do not think it was,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

“I think whenever Salah stops in the mix zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed between him and his agent to cause maximum damage and to strengthen his own position.”

Carragher, who is Liverpool’s all-time Premier League appearance maker, took particular offence to one remark made by Salah.

“The one line that stands out for me is ‘thrown under the bus.’ He’s thrown the club under the bus twice in the last 12 months,” Carragher said.

“With the manager right now, he should be doing as much as he can to help the club get out of the worst run they’ve had since the 1950s, and he hasn’t done that.

“When we are talking about throwing people under the bus, he’s thrown every Liverpool right-back under the bus for the last eight years.

“Can you imagine playing behind him for eight years? But we accept it because he’s a superstar, and he’s scored 250 goals, and he’s given me, as a Liverpool supporter, some of the greatest nights of my life.”

The 47-year-old also questioned Salah’s record with Egypt, with whom he joins up next week for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“You weren’t a big star before you came to Liverpool, you haven’t really won much for Egypt, no matter how big you are, you need help from your team-mates,” he said.

“Your manager and fans, it’s important that he remembers that. When he talks about Leeds, it’s all about me, me, me.”

Since joining the club in 2017, Salah has made 420 appearances across all competitions, netting a staggering 250 goals while also laying on 113 assists for his team-mates.

He has won eight major honours during his time at Anfield, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two EFL Cups and the FA Cup.

However, he has managed just five goals and three assists this season, following his sensational 2024-25 campaign, where he registered 57 goal involvements in all competitions.
