
Iliman Ndiaye strike on the 27th minute to help Senegal advance to the semi finals of the AFCON ahead of Mali
The West African derby between Mali and Senegal got a lot of football loving fans talking and anticipating as it also happened to be the first quarter finals match of the 2025 AFCON.
Coming off a victory over the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, the Eagles of Mali were confident of advancing to the semi finals of the AFCON ahead of the Terenga Lions of Senegal.
Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye gave the Senegalese the lead in 27th minute of the first half following a howler from Mali’s goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.
As the Malians chase the lead, captain Yves Bissouma got sent off for a second yellow in the 43rd minute.
Djigui Diarra stood tall for the Malians in the second half as he tend to be the only thing that prevented the Senegalese from scoring a second to put the game to bed.
Senegal advance to the semi finals waiting on the winner from the fixture between Cote D’Ivoire and Egypt.
