AFCON: Diarra's heroics sends Mali to the quarter finals

The Eagles of Mali soared higher than the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to book a date with Senegal in the quarter finals

The second match of the day saw Mali take on Tunisia for a spot in the quarterfinals of the AFCON on January 9, 2025.

The game started with a lot of intensity and aggression which resulted in Mali’s Coulibaly being sent off for a tackle on Hannibal in the first half of the game.

The Tunisians went ahead after a moment of lack of concentration on the part of the Malian defense, which saw Firas Chaouat give the Carthage Eagles the lead in the 88th minute.

With a few minutes left to end the game, Lassine Sinayoko drew the Malians level from the penalty spot.

After 120 minutes, we got to experience the first penalty shootouts of the 2025 AFCON

After early misses from Bissouma and Nene, Diarra came to the rescue of the Eagles of Mali as they defeated Tunisia 3-2 on penalties
